Lee Mead Is The Winner Of Any Dream Will Do

Monday, June 11th, 2007

The whole office is jumping for joy today as Lee Mead was given the Techincoloured Dreamcoat and the prestigious role of Joseph this weekend. Giving two outstanding performances, Lee was chosen by the voting public to star in Andrew Lloyd Webbers “Joseph and The Technicoloured Dreamcoat” which will be in the West End this summer.
Keith gave a solid performance and was a strong competitor but it was Lee who shone out on Saturday and throughout the competition, I guess it’s back to the supermarket for Keith.
The audience were also treated to a reunion of the Joseph contestants, all the boys performed for one last time singing “The Boys Are Back In town”. It was a nice touch to the final of “Any Dream Will Do” and it was good to see that Seamus made it back after his embarrassing exit last time.

We all know Lee is going to do a superb job and I for one can’t wait to see him in the West End. If you’d like to know more about Lee Mead why not have a look at his biography, we’ve found out the all facts and information that any Lee Mead fan should know.

I have posted the final for those of you that missed it.

And then there were three

So, Ben is no more. ‘The Lord’ chose to save Lewis on Saturday night’s ‘Any Dream Will Do’ sing-off. I think he made the right decision, but I still don’t think Lewis has got what it takes to win right now. I really liked his performance of ‘Oh What a Circus’ with Lee - I think it showed that he has the talent to be a musical theatre star, but I don’t think he’s consistent enough to go for it yet. Lee performed brilliantly in the duet as well, but had a few problems with his solo ‘Livin’ on a Prayer’ - I’m not quite sure what went wrong, but he seemed unable to catch up with the live band at one point. However, as the judges were quick to point out, he covered his mistake easily and carried on with the song perfectly - something which actually went in his favour.

As for Keith, I think he’s a bit of an unknown quantity. Like Lee, he’s never been in a sing-off and he’s been getting lots of compliments from the judges on his voice lately. He’s the only serious challenge to Lee, but I don’t think he has as good a look for Joseph and lacks some of the charisma Lee has shown week after week. Roll on Saturday’s final!

Take a look at Lewis and Lee’s duet - the most enjoyable part of this week’s show in my opinion…

Battle of the Josephs

Wednesday, May 30th, 2007

It’s nearly crunch time. ‘Any Dream Will Do’ semi-final this week. Keith, Lee, Lewis and Ben will battle it out for a precious place in the final show. I personally think it’s down to two main contenders now - Keith and Lee. Ben undoubtedly has star quality and cheeky charm to boot, but his shaky performance of ‘Crying’ last Saturday proved that his voice may not be strong enough to play Joseph. And as for Lewis, I’ve not yet seen him shine in the competition and to be honest, I’m surprised he’s still there. Although his performances are always competent, I’ve never watched him and gone ‘wow!’.

In other related news, I was surprised to see that Lee Mead has a Facebook profile - or should I say ‘Lee Mead’ has a Facebook profile. Ok, so I was sad enough to search for him on Facebook (it pains me to admit that, it really does). Anyway it was clearly a fake but there were lots of fans leaving messages of support and general obsession on it. Until today when I checked it (for research purposes only, you understand) a friend of Lee has had a big old rant telling the fakers to close the account. He called them bad names. He sounds rather angry. All of which I thought was very funny. Check it out at Facebook - you’ll have to join to see it though.

Anyway, take a look at Mr Mead performing ‘Daydream Believer’ last Saturday - bleedin’ brill. If you’re betting person, I suggest you put some cash on him to win..

Lee to win Joseph

Monday, May 21st, 2007

Things are getting very very exciting on ‘Any Dream Will Do’ these days. We’re down to the final five and now that Daniel’s gone (shocking by the way - Lewis should have been out this week), I can’t see any contenders to really rival Lee. Lewis seems to lack confidence and Craig has no charisma. Ben and Keith are great, but they pale when placed next to Lee. His version of ‘Paint It Black’ by the Rolling Stones was truly powerful, brilliantly acted and superbly sung. I don’t want to count Lee’s chickens before they hatch, but I think we already have our Joseph…

It’s the final six

Monday, May 14th, 2007

This week was the turn of Rob the Builder to leave ‘Any Dream Will Do’. As soon as I saw that he was up against Lewis in the sing-off I knew he’d be going - no competition really.

So, we’re left with the final six. And I think all but one have the potential to win - Craig. He’s had a couple of near misses, being in the bottom two fairly often. If he’s in the sing-off against any of the other remaining Josephs I think ‘The Lord’ will let him go. For me, he’s just not got the charisma of any of the others and I don’t think I’d pay to see him on a West End stage. But as for who will win out of the others, it’s anyone’s guess. They’re all really good, though I have a feeling it will be Daniel, Lee and Keith in the final….

Bye bye Chris B

Tuesday, May 8th, 2007

Ahhh it’s a shame, but after a promising start Chris B is out of the ‘Any Dream Will Do’. Andrew Lloyd Webber described him as a rabbit in the headlights, which I think is a little harsh, but he does have a point. I really like Chris, but being in the bottom two the other week seemed to knock his confidence and he never recovered.

Lee was brilliant as always and proved he can do rock ‘n’ roll as well as a soulful ballad this week. I’ve added a video of him singing ‘All Right Now’ for your delectation.

And a sad farewell from Chris… I’ll miss him!

Check out Andrew Lloyd Webber’s video diary for his views on the show.

Lee Has Fallen Ill and Seamus Has Fallen Out

Thursday, May 3rd, 2007

Tragedy has stuck the Joseph house, our favorite Joseph (Lee) has fallen ill with a virus and has already had to miss training. He has tried all the old remedies such as inhaling steam, gargling with salt water and fizzy vitamins in order to get better for saturdays performance. His sheer determination to stay on is proof enough that he is worthy to go all the way, we are now voting for you more than ever!
Oh dear oh dear, Seamus you have really shown your true colours! His final performance of “Close Every Door To Me” was really something. I don’t know what he has trying to prove by signing so angrily, ripping the coat away from the other Josephs and singing the last lyric “I have been promised a SHOW of my own” instead of LAND.
Take a look for yourself to see how ridiculous he looks, below I have also added another eviction so you can see what it was supposed to be like.

See ya Seamus

Monday, April 30th, 2007

Sour grapes anyone? Seamus certainly had his fair share on this week’s ‘Any Dream Will Do’. Ok, I don’t think he was the right choice to leave, but he could have at least done it with dignity. Accusing Andrew Lloyd Webber of a ‘conspiracy theory’ the moment he found he was going was a pretty poor response and his angry performance of ‘Close Every Door to Me’ was kind of cringeful. I don’t think he could have cut it as Joseph in the long run anyway, he was always a little bit to arrogant for my liking.

Anthony was a dead cert to go after his ear-splitting performance of Take That’s ‘Patience’. For the first time in the competition I had to cover my ears while he was singing. Saturday’s show proved he’s not a lot more than a pretty face.

I think the front runners are becoming clear now. For me it’s Keith, Lee, Lewis and Daniel. Much as I’m rooting for Chris B, he seems a little too sensitive to be able to hold it together for eight performances a week. But I’m really hoping he’ll shine over the coming weeks and show us what he’s made of. To me, Craig seems weak, Ben forgettable and Rob just isn’t Joseph. The others are excellent though. Keith did a fantastically bouncy performance of ‘Crocodile Rock’ this week, that proved he’s well on his way to sorting his diction problems out. Lewis and Daniel were excellent also, giving really solid, classy performances. But Lee’s still by far and away my favourite. Singing ‘I Don’t Want To Talk About It’, he gave a controlled, well acted performance that sent shivers down my spine. Bill Kenwright wasn’t wrong when he said ‘Lee, you’ve broken a few million hearts tonight’. I just love him!

So who’ll go next week? My money’s on Craig, but we shall have to wait and see…

And, just for the hell of it, because I think he’s gorgeous, here’s Lee’s audition video…

I (nearly) know a Joseph

Thursday, April 26th, 2007

I found out at the weekend that my boyfriend’s sister used to go out with Chris B from ‘Any Dream Will Do’. Ok, it’s a bit of a rubbish claim to fame, considering he hasn’t even won the competition yet, but thought I’d share it with the world anyway! Now all I have to do is get them back together, make sure Chris wins and hey presto I’ll have an exclusive link into the world of West End theatre - which means I’ll be able to share all the goss right here on my Show and Stay blog…

In other news, poor old Chris has a cold this week, check out his video diary to see how he’s doing. Sure he’ll get over it and pull a strong performance out of the bag on Saturday - Chris to win!

Farewell to Johndeep…

Monday, April 23rd, 2007

Well, well, well. What a show this week! First of all let me say, what on earth was Chris B doing in the bottom two? He’s head and shoulders above most of the other ‘Any Dream Will Do’ contestants, particularly Ben Ellis, who’s just not in the same league. I was sorry to see Johndeep go out, but ‘The Lord’ very much made the right choice there. I think with Chris B it was a case of the public thinking he’s good enough to get by and so not bothering to vote for him. Hopefully that won’t happen this week. I may even be tempted to get my phone out and support him, as it would be a crying shame for him to go out so early in the competition. I promised myself I wouldn’t get sucked into voting, but darn it, this is how they hook you in!

Lee’s still my favourite though. This week the show was all about the boys acting abilities and his performance of ‘Bad Day’ was perfect both from an acting and singing point of view. I think he’ll be in the competition to the end and he totally deserves to be. What a pro!

Keith didn’t do as well this week, and got several comments from the judges about poor diction. But I still found him extremely watchable and likeable, and if he can sort his diction issues out I think he’s in with a good chance of winning.

As well as my favourites, I’ve started to have my dislikes amongst the group. I’m by no means a Rob fan. Something about him makes my skin crawl and I think he has the makings of a bully, as he admitted he’s already had a spat with someone in the group and said he doesn’t care what he has to do to win. The role of Joseph requires some sensitivity, which is a quality that Rob just doesn’t possess.

So, my hot tips for the coming week are Chris and the lovely Lee. I think after being in the bottom two, Chris will up his game even more and Lee has been consistently good and looks set to get even better. Roll on Saturday…
