Zac Efron Denies It.

October 10th, 2008 by Jonathan Dudley

So you know Zac Efron, the guy who plays ‘Troy Bolton’ in the massive High School Musical franchise? Floppy hair, nice eyes, knee-weakening smile? Yeah, that Zac Efron. He has denied he was set to play the lead in the West End production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat on GMTV this week. Fiona Phillips asked the star (who looked incredibly hot) about the rumours, he denied everything; ‘That’s defiantly, defiantly a rumour, I mean sometime down the road it would be fun to star in the West End’.

Rumours have been spreading rapidly online. According to message board gossip, Efron heard the current Joseph, , Lee Mead, was leaving the cast of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat in January and decided to get in touch with Andrew Lloyd Webber.

I suppose Efron has a lot on his plate at the moment. With his hectic schedule, including filming 17 Again (which comes out in 2009) and seemingly endless promotional work for High School Musical 3, it’s no wonder he doesn’t have the time to star in the West End just yet.

In my opinion Efron would have been a brilliant Joseph, he’s got the cheekiness, he’s playful, he can sing so the talent’s there but most of all…. he is drop dead gorgeous! Well i think so, along with millions of other fans!

I think treading the boards could be a big opportunity for Efron. The West End can really make an actor, it could even give him the chance to move into some more grown-up roles. At the moment Efron is working with Disney, playing roles that can hardly be described as grown-up. Perhaps a stint in the West End would allow him to experiment with other types of roles, I for one would be interested to see him cast in something a little darker than his usual teen-friendly parts.

If we ever want to see Efron in the West End perhaps someone should keep his over enthusiastic fans away. Just last night the 20-year-old heart-throb was attacked by a crazed fan! (It wasn’t me!) The star was leaving the Apollo Theatre after watching Josh Harnett perform in the incredible new production Rain Man, when a ‘middle aged’ man grabbed his hair! Efron is said to be recovering today, we love you Efron!!!

Oh one more thing! Efron said himself his role in Joseph is a ‘rumour’ he never out and out denied it. There is nothing to say he wont appear in the West End in the future, hopefully sooner rather then later. I cannot wait until that day!
