BBC4 Hear The Sound of Music
BBC Radio 4, not one of my favourite radio stations, is seldom tuned into my wireless. Not because I’m totally bereft of culture but more because the station has a mysterious soporific effect on me. The first fifteen minutes of the Today Show is guaranteed to leave me snoozing, mouth open, undignified.
It looks like that might be all about to change. BBC Radio 4 is to present an interesting new take on West End favourite, The Sound of Music. The retelling will present the Rodgers and Hammerstein classic from the viewpoint of Maria’s rival, Baroness Schräder.
Interesting isn’t it? Sort of like Wicked but with singing children and Nazis and whatnot. Interesting sidenote, I only found out that The Sound of Music is based on a true story today. I have literally no idea how that passed me by, apparently it’s pretty common knowledge amongst the rest of the civilised world. I wonder what other West End shows are based on true stories….did the Lion King really happen?! If so someone should really tell me before I’m made to look foolish in the office again.
