Webberwatch
August 4th, 2008 by Jonathan DudleyIts time for the latest thrilling instalment of everybody’s favourite Show and Stay® blog, Webberwatch! Another chance for you to follow the wacky adventures of Britain’s favourite songwriter, theatre owner and general West End mogul, Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber.
Last time we checked up on the Webster he was in Canada to well and truly solve that pesky Maria problem. After congratulating Canada’s new Maria (a lovely young lady named Elicia MacKenzie) Lord Webber’s thoughts turned to birthdays, parties and good old fashioned knees ups. Keen to make the most of the summer sunshine and to put on a spectacular birthday bonanza for himself and his legions of fans, Lord Webber grabbed his best biro and began planning in earnest.
The result of Webber’s feverish planning is Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Birthday In The Park. A one-off special concert with stars from the worlds of stage, television and pop music converging on Hyde Park to celebrate the 60th birthday of Lord Webber.
John Barrowman will be hosting the event which will be open to the public for just £25! For the cost of a Chinese takeaway you can tell your friends you went to Andrew Lloyd Webber’s birthday party, impressive stuff.
Music from the birthday boy’s best-loved shows including Evita, The Phantom Of The Opera, Starlight Express and Cats will set the party mood. The 70-peice BBC Concert Orchestra will keep the music coming all through the night and the 100-voice Crouch End Festival Chorus will be performing. All manner of stars will also be taking to the stage to celebrate Webber’s 60th. Blue’s Duncan James, Joseph’s Lee Mead, Wicked’s Idina Menzel, X Factor’s Rhydian, Julian Lloyd Webber, homegrown soul sensation Joss Stone and the I’d Do Anything Nancys and Olivers have all RSVP’d to Webber’s invitation.
The concert will be starting at 18:00 on Sunday 14th September 2008 and will be held in Hyde Park. There will even be a firework finale, which is always nice. Webber’s birthday bash could well shape up to be one of the biggest events in theatre this summer. With a broad selection of popular showtunes performed by talented West End stars, the ever-popular John Barrowman hosting, the lovely Joss Stone making an appearance and the I’d Do Anything gang together again, all for £25, this party isn’t one to be missed. If you do miss it don’t panic, its all being broadcast on BBC Radio 2 on 10th October anyway, good times.
