Never Mind the Edinburgh Fringe, Here is the London Frijj

August 11th, 2008 by Nathan

The Edinburgh Festival may be the destination for experimental drama and comedy fans but film buffs might want to look into spending a little time in the capital this autumn…

So they’ve finally gone and done it: those creamy chaps behind the famous milkshake brand are holding a huge film festival during August and September and are planning to screen classic films at cinemas all over the city. What’s more, there’s something to suit everyone: from Pulp Fiction go straight through to Jaws, left at The Gladiator, over the bridge, round the Lord of the Rings roundabout three times and you’ll arrive at The Godfather part II. Quite the cinematic journey wouldn’t you say?

There are 26 classic films on show to be precise… and do you want to know what the best part is? Are you sure you can you handle it? Are you sitting down? The best part is the tickets are all totally FREE!

Starting on the 14th of August and running every Thursday until the 18th September, the Frijj Film Festival promises to be a real hit with locals and tourists alike. It’s a unique opportunity to see some seriously great movies back on the silver screen and I for one am getting pretty excited about it.

The zenith of the festival would seem to be the plan to screen all the Lord of the Rings Trilogy in one night. The LOTR all nighter sounds pretty crazy dangerous if you ask me, but serious fans should be able to handle it. Saying that, I had a friend once who watched all the DVDs in one day (and the special extended versions too)… he’s never quite been the same again to tell the truth: he’s grown his hair all long and now refuses to wear shoes of any kind. Point blank refuses. Still, a worthwhile endeavour no doubt.

Personally, the prospect of seeing The Usual Suspects on the big screen is what really excites me. It’s basically my favourite film ever and I’d be well up for watching Kevin Spacey limp about all over the silver screen. Kyser Soze! KYSER SOZE! -All riiiight.
