Nancy Catch Up

Wednesday, April 9th, 2008

If I’d of known that being a Nancy meant you got to meet George Clooney - I’d of been at the front of the auditions que! The fact that I can’t sing or act is another matter.

The lucky ten remaining Nancys went shopping this week to get some fancy outfits for the premier of George Clooney’s film “Leatherheads”. The premier was the first public event for the girls and I wonder how they reacted to people shouting their names and photographers taking snaps of them on the red carpet. From the pictures taken it looks like they had a blast and got up close and personal with the dashing actor, lets hope the girls will dish the dirt on their night in the Nancy diaries.

Cleo’s exit interview and Keisha’s Dear Diary have been posted up on the I’d Do Anything website this week and it’s interesting to see how both girls reacted to Sunday night. Cleo actually took the whole thing pretty well, she comes across as a very positive person and it’s good to see it hasn’t put her off trying out for other West End productions. Keisha on the other hand looks like she’s been knocked down a peg or two. She was previously so confident, but now she is very thankful for her position within the competition and knows she needs to step it up in order to stay in.

The I’d Do Anything crew also caught up with Jessie, Niamh and Ashley this week. Jessie has been taking the judges comments quite seriously and got herself down to The Cambridge Theatre to work on her posture with some of the Chicago Cast. I admire Jessie for taking note of what the judges have said and trying to improve on it, she really deserves to be in this competition.

Ashley is another girl who truly deserves her place in I’d Do Anything, in her interview she comments “I’m going to have to put the hours in this week, but I don’t mind because it’s what I love doing. I’m not worried, this is a marathon, not a sprint.” It seems like she has the whole of Scotland behind her in this competition and she actually received a letter this week from the First Minister of Scotland wishing her luck!

Niamh is enjoying the whole experience and taking everything in her stride, she comes across as a very strong willed person who can rise to the challenge of this competition. However she is missing some home comforts like potato bread and Irish sausages, luckily her mum was able to bring some with her to Saturday night’s show!

So now you’re up to date with all the Nancy info, why not keep checking back with Show and Stay ® for more updates and exciting information on I’d Do Anything!

I’d Do Anything - Week 2

Monday, April 7th, 2008

Well I certainly didn’t see Cleo getting the boot this Sunday night, fair enough she didn’t give an outstanding performance but COME ON people - what is Tara still doing there?
Good old Barry Humphries was on top form again, going off on tangents and delivering comic comments to keep us entertained - keep up the good work! As for Lord Webber, he looks more and more out of it each time the camera catches him off guard, he is a strange character and a little awkward to watch sometimes. Did anybody see Webber awkwardly interacting with the rat? He was rubbing it on his face with glee and thrusting it at the judges and Graham Norton. He was acting a little bit like hyperactive school child with a bogie on his finger - he knows it shouldn’t be there and it’s a little disgusting, so he thrusts it at everybody and anybody in order to get a reaction. Strange strange fellow.

Anyway here is my run down on the girl’s performances …

  • Jessie - A wonderful rendition of Killing Me Softly, she put her own twist on it and refrained from doing her Tina Turner style dance moves. One of our favourites.
  • Samantha - A clear favourite with the audience and a very cute girl, however I feel that her performance was not as strong this week.
  • Ashley - Weak start but pretty good once she got into it, not a great mover - that would need to be worked on.
  • Jodie - Bit disappointed with Jodie this week, yes she has a strong voice but I can see what Denise means when she says Jodie is a bit Cabaret.
  • Rachel - Rachel is just running away with this competition, she sang Christina Aguilera’s beautiful in her own special way and everybody loved it.
  • Cleo - Cleo was just ok this week, not the worst but not the best. It may be because she picked a song that was too big for her voice.
  • Francesca - I don’t know what it is about Fran, but when she nods and scrunches up her nose to emphasise point - it irritates the hell out of me! She had a good strong voice this week, could do with a little less acting throughout the song though.
  • Keisha - Completely the wrong song, teamed with a tacky dance and an embarrassing high five move which made me shudder. It’s not a Saturday morning kids TV programme luv!
  • Niamh- Niamh is another one of our favourites, she has such a big voice from such a small lady. She sings effortlessly and really catches your attention.
  • Tara- Well in my opinion Tara should not even be here this week and once again she did not impress me with her vocal talents. It was too big of a song for her and weirdly she sang it too slow in parts, leaving her to rush to catch up with the music. The high notes were also strained, she really has to pull something out of the bag next week in order to change our minds.
  • Sarah - Sarah is just too sweet and innocent to play Nancy, there is no doubt she has an amazing voice but she doesn’t have the look to pull it off. If Disney were auditioning for their own version Oliver! then yes, she’d get it for sure.

The girls acting talents were put the test last week when they came face to face with Bill Sykes in a dungeon! It was quite surprising actually as a few of the girls you’d expect to be good at acting couldn’t quite get it. Samantha forgot her lines, Jodie couldn’t portray the emotion of the script, Jessie was all over the place. However all rounder Rachel scored big points, as did Sarah, Ashley and Fran. I think people forget about the acting side of this competition and just focus on the singing aspect, it really is an important feature of a show and should be pushed further in these programmes in my opinion.

As for the Olivers, they sang ‘Electricity’ from the hit film/musical Billy Elliot. 12-year-old Chester from Middlesex was chosen this week by Andrew Lloyd Webber to pass through to the semi-finals. Chester joined Gwion on stage Sunday night and sang Pie Jesu absolutely beautifully.

So that’s it for the second instalment of the live I’d Do Anything, stay tuned for more action and drama on this weeks show!

I’d Do Anything For A Recap

Thursday, April 3rd, 2008

After trawling through youtube I managed to find some fantastic clips of the girls for you, if you missed the first I’d Do Anything live show - don’t panic as these bad boys will get you up to speed.

These little youtube gems give us a sneaky peak into the world of the girls and a little personality to each of them. Haven’t made up your mind to which one’s your favourite? I’m sure these clips will help you to decide.

Zoe Tyler also can’t make up her mind on which girl could be Nancy, after reading through her column in The Stage newspaper this afternoon it struck me that Tyler is actually quite bitter about being kicked off the I’d Do Anything judging panel. She tore into her replacement Barry Humphries saying “I found it hard to look at him and not expect him to start dribbling and turning to Sir Les” and “I wanted to hear more constructed criticism …….it looked a bit like he wasn’t sure who was who on stage”. However she was very complimentary about the Nancys and Olivers, and she did agreed with Show and Stay about Tara’s awful performance. So to sum up, we like Zoe and she has some great comments - but enough with the Humphries bashing!

Here are the clips for you to enjoy.

I’d Do Anything Update

Tuesday, April 1st, 2008

The I’d Do Anything website is once again jammed packed full of juicy info and up to date, need to know news. With pictures, videos and behind the scenes gossip - there’s everything you’d ever need to know about your favourite show.

If you weren’t fulfilled by Amy’s fairwell, you cant now hear her last words about her experience on the show, word to the wise - you may need tissues as it’s certainly emotional.

Want to get to know your favourite Nancy’s family? There is now a brand new section called Nancy Natter in which families send out their plea for your vote. I think that this section will get more and more desperate each week when the numbers diminish.

Interviews with the Nancys and the guests will also be available each week so you’ll get the inside scoop on how the girls are feeling and how the guest found the show.

I have to say that I am rather impressed by the website and much prefer it to Any Dream Will Do’s site and How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria’s site, it’s got all the juicy goss and show information as soon as it happens. So keep up the good work guys!
