I’d Do Anything - Week 2
April 7th, 2008 by Laura WestWell I certainly didn’t see Cleo getting the boot this Sunday night, fair enough she didn’t give an outstanding performance but COME ON people - what is Tara still doing there?
Good old Barry Humphries was on top form again, going off on tangents and delivering comic comments to keep us entertained - keep up the good work! As for Lord Webber, he looks more and more out of it each time the camera catches him off guard, he is a strange character and a little awkward to watch sometimes. Did anybody see Webber awkwardly interacting with the rat? He was rubbing it on his face with glee and thrusting it at the judges and Graham Norton. He was acting a little bit like hyperactive school child with a bogie on his finger - he knows it shouldn’t be there and it’s a little disgusting, so he thrusts it at everybody and anybody in order to get a reaction. Strange strange fellow.
Anyway here is my run down on the girl’s performances …
- Jessie - A wonderful rendition of Killing Me Softly, she put her own twist on it and refrained from doing her Tina Turner style dance moves. One of our favourites.
- Samantha - A clear favourite with the audience and a very cute girl, however I feel that her performance was not as strong this week.
- Ashley - Weak start but pretty good once she got into it, not a great mover - that would need to be worked on.
- Jodie - Bit disappointed with Jodie this week, yes she has a strong voice but I can see what Denise means when she says Jodie is a bit Cabaret.
- Rachel - Rachel is just running away with this competition, she sang Christina Aguilera’s beautiful in her own special way and everybody loved it.
- Cleo - Cleo was just ok this week, not the worst but not the best. It may be because she picked a song that was too big for her voice.
- Francesca - I don’t know what it is about Fran, but when she nods and scrunches up her nose to emphasise point - it irritates the hell out of me! She had a good strong voice this week, could do with a little less acting throughout the song though.
- Keisha - Completely the wrong song, teamed with a tacky dance and an embarrassing high five move which made me shudder. It’s not a Saturday morning kids TV programme luv!
- Niamh- Niamh is another one of our favourites, she has such a big voice from such a small lady. She sings effortlessly and really catches your attention.
- Tara- Well in my opinion Tara should not even be here this week and once again she did not impress me with her vocal talents. It was too big of a song for her and weirdly she sang it too slow in parts, leaving her to rush to catch up with the music. The high notes were also strained, she really has to pull something out of the bag next week in order to change our minds.
- Sarah - Sarah is just too sweet and innocent to play Nancy, there is no doubt she has an amazing voice but she doesn’t have the look to pull it off. If Disney were auditioning for their own version Oliver! then yes, she’d get it for sure.
The girls acting talents were put the test last week when they came face to face with Bill Sykes in a dungeon! It was quite surprising actually as a few of the girls you’d expect to be good at acting couldn’t quite get it. Samantha forgot her lines, Jodie couldn’t portray the emotion of the script, Jessie was all over the place. However all rounder Rachel scored big points, as did Sarah, Ashley and Fran. I think people forget about the acting side of this competition and just focus on the singing aspect, it really is an important feature of a show and should be pushed further in these programmes in my opinion.
As for the Olivers, they sang ‘Electricity’ from the hit film/musical Billy Elliot. 12-year-old Chester from Middlesex was chosen this week by Andrew Lloyd Webber to pass through to the semi-finals. Chester joined Gwion on stage Sunday night and sang Pie Jesu absolutely beautifully.
So that’s it for the second instalment of the live I’d Do Anything, stay tuned for more action and drama on this weeks show!

Please could I inform those of you LUCKY enough to NOT have perfect pitch that Fran sings any note higher than C { one octave higher than middle C} flat. She is one of the best at acting but she can’t stay right in Key.
