High School Musical - A Firm Fixture in London

Monday, January 28th, 2008

This is the news you’ve all been waiting for, yep that’s right, High School Musical is here to stay in London! It would seem the tour is not enough for HSM fans, now the show is coming to the Hammersmith Apollo on the 30th June for ten weeks.
However I reckon that it will be an outstanding success and will run for much longer than ten weeks as everyone wants a slice of the High School Musical pie. The UK stage version of this popular Disney film will be directed by the award winning Jeff Calhoun and choreographed by Lisa Stevens, casting is yet to be announced.
So High School Musical lovers - keep your eyes and ears on Show and Stay as we will bring you more on this exciting story as and when we hear more about it.

Toy Boy for Roxie Hart!

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008

Rumours are flying about on the grapevine that cheeky chappie Matt Di Angelo (who has recently been seen on Strictly Come Dancing and Eastenders) is soon to tread the boards in the hit West End show Chicago.
At 20 years old he is a very young Billy Flynn and in my opinion he’d look like he’s raided his dad’s wardrobe for a fancy dress party - but that’s just me! No doubt he is a talented young man so we’ll just have to see how well he makes that jump from small screen to stage.

But what’s more worrying is that he has to try and pretend that Bonnie Langford is his love interest! Now Bonny, as beautiful as she many be, is no spring chicken and it would look more like a mesh between Chicago and The Graduate!
At the moment these are just rumours, but we’ll bring you all the hot Chicago gossip when it filters through that grapevine!

Denise and Our Joseph are Dating

Friday, January 18th, 2008

Us girls at Show and Stay office had our suspicions about Lee Mead and Denise Van Outen from the moment she kissed his picture during his first audition for Any Dream Will Do. Well after all that chemistry and tension, Denise and Lee are finally together and have been secretly seeing each other for weeks! The pair have both been in West End shows recently and both been spotted watching adoringly from the audience and showering each other with congratulatory presents.
Denise claims she still sees most of the Joseph boys as they are currently starring in various West End productions, most recently she saw Lewis Bradley - who split his pants doing a fame jump at her New Year’s Eve party!
So Joseph fans when you book to see Joseph and the Technicolour Dreamcoat you may just be sat next to Denise Van Outen, so be careful not to drool too much over her boyfriend in a loin cloth!

Theatre From Around the World

Thursday, January 17th, 2008

Usually we only report on UK theatre, or occasionally Broadway, but when we stumbled across this little gem we had to say a little something about it. Are you ready for this …… Spain is about to unleash THE ANNE FRANK MUSICAL!
Fair enough it’s a compelling story and one that would fit nicely on a theatre stage, however I think the seriousness of this devastating plot would be lost when Hitler breaks into a song or Anne Frank whispers a little ditty whilst hiding from Nazi troops in the hidden annexe.
I could be totally wrong and it could be a masterpiece (well after trying for ten years to persuade The Anne Frank Foundation to turn her story into a musical - it better be good!), but I guess we’ll leave that for the good people of Spain to decide and no doubt we’ll hear the reviews!

Tom Hanks teams up with ABBA!

Thursday, January 17th, 2008

Are you sitting comfortably? Because this story might knock your socks off!
The unlikely pairing of Tom Hanks and ABBA will hit our cinemas late 2007. Tom Hanks has said Gimme Gimme Gimme a film version of the ABBA inspired hit musical ‘Mamma Mia!’
The musical phenomenon that is ‘Mamma Mia!’ is heading to the big screen courtesy of Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman, who have also enrolled My Big Fat Greek Wedding’s producer Judy Cramer to help out.

For those of you who don’t know ‘Mamma Mia!’ (where have you been?), it’s the tale of a young woman who embarks on a quest to discover the identity of her father on the eve of her wedding. The story is set to 22 ABBA hits which include Knowing Me, Knowing You, Mamma Mia, Dancing Queen and The Winner Takes It All.
So if you’ve seen the show, read the book, why not re-live that fantastic story again at a cinema near you…………and then decide that the show is better and book to see it again!

Talented youngsters between the ages of 16 and 18 are currently being put through a “real-life casting process” which started on the 12th January at the London Welsh Centre.
