From Hollyoaks to the West End

Thursday, November 29th, 2007

Bonnie Langford’s niece Summer Strallen has only just begun her stint on Hollyoaks (a channel four soap which is a popular with teens and hungover students on a sunday morning), now she may be set to join the cast of The Sound of Music in London’s West End.
Summer is no stranger to the bright lights of the West End as she has recently appeared in the toe-tapping forties style comedy ‘The Drowsy Chaperone’ and starred in the popular ‘Cats’ and ‘Guys and Dolls’. We’ve heard on the grapevine that Summer may possibly be taking over from “How Do You Solve A problem Like Maria” winner Connie Fisher when she finishes her contact in February 2008.
If you want to know all the gossip about Summer’s jump from small screen to the stage - keep checking back here.

For those who can’t place a face to the name, here is a clip from Hollyoaks backstage.

Denise Van Sh-Outen!

Friday, November 9th, 2007

Good old Denise has never really been able to keep her opinions to herself, this time she attacked ITV and more specifically Grease Is The Word.

Denise believes that ITV were more interested in ratings than “nurturing talent” for the West End and that they did not provide appropriate care for unsuccessful contestants.

Fair enough Grease is the Word had a few minor (when I say minor I mean MINOR) celebrities in the competition but I don’t think that is worthy of the ‘nurturing talent’ comment. Yes compared to Any Dream Will Do, Grease Is The Word did look very cheesy, tacky and geared for ratings - BUT they are both reality TV talent shows, if one choses to play on it’s genre to get ratings so be it. After all it’s the people at home who are going to go and watch the musical so why not grab as many fans as you can, besides I think everyone deserves a fair crack at the whip, Z-list celebrity or not!

As for the ‘care comment’ - who knows, I do hope that all unsuccessful contestants have some sort of support - from ITV, family or friends

One has to wonder though, Denise is now staring in RENT at the Duke OF Yorks Theatre and may be appearing as a judge in Webber’s possible new talent show to find the lead for “My Fair Lady” - PUBLICITY… ANYONE?

I hate to say I told you so……

Friday, November 9th, 2007

Well it seems I was right about Bad Girls The Musical, after ONE MONTH the show is due to close!

…… “I can't really see the gritty fights having the same emotion and drama when sung full pelt in a theatrical fashion, the reality of the situation is lost in the translation from TV to stage.” 20th August…….

I guess the riots and gritty storylines didn’t really have the same effect in the West End at they did on TV and Jim Fenner’s menacing stare must have melted under the stage lights.

West End producers are going to have to start searching in other directions for musical ideas as it would seem that the TV series adaptation idea died a death along with the Larkfield Prison inmates.

COME ON GUYS, GET SOME BETTER IDEAS!!

Festive Fun in the Heart of London

Tuesday, November 6th, 2007

Jealous of those Yanks in New York who get to ice skate and enjoy the Christmas festivities in Central Park? Well us Brits have something to rival their jollification this year as the Winter Wonderland extravaganza is coming to our very own Hyde Park, excited? You’d better be!

The famous Hyde Park is going to be decked out this season with an ice skating rink (London’s largest outdoor rink to be exact), a German Christmas market, a giant observation wheel, a bungy dome, rides and much much more! We also hear that Santa Claus has swapped his cosy log cabin in the south pole for the bright lights of London - don’t be surprised if you catch a glimpse of him wandering around Hyde Park’s Winter Wonderland.

Show and Stay have teamed up with the Winter Wonderland extravaganza this year to bring you the ultimate theatre break - you can add this glorious excursion to a show of your choice to make an amazing day out, why not get all festive at Hyde Park before being dazzled by a West End show.

What better way to get in the Christmas spirit than a visit to this merry event, I for one shall be sampling some mulled wine and trying my hand at the ice skating, or ice falling in my case!
