Don’t Mess With Marco

Thursday, September 27th, 2007

I don’t know about anyone else but I really had no idea who Marco Pierre White was, that was until I watched “Hell’s Kitchen” and then realised not only is this man a big deal but, we sell pre-theatre dinner to 3 of his restaurants!! Mental! If I’d have known that earlier, I’d have made more of our London trips…you never know he may choose the day I visit L’Escargot to do a “spot check” on his staff! Anyways for those who are still not sure, Marco Pierre White is the ‘godfather’ of celebrity chefs within the art of contemporary cooking…. seems to me, he’s yet another angry chef who is quick to find fault in the kitchen, but then again aren’t they all?!
A chef that will abuse his fellow patrons through filthy language whilst using his own tools as deadly weapons is nothing short of a thrilling night out, even though a little scary in parts. In-fact, it is worthwhile putting up with his arrogance just so you could eat the food. Believe it or not Ramsay - the original “Hell’s Kitchen” chef, was at one time the understudy of Marco but they are now sworn enemies within the kitchen. However, try not to be too offended by Mr ‘touchy pants’ Marco because what you say could result in your immediate expulsion from the restaurant, as experienced by many a patron! Please take this point seriously, and I do mean seriously, as one young chef found out. Legend has it that after complaining only of the heat in the kitchen, the young chef consequently find himself confronted by Marco (ironically once dubbed the The Little Lamb) and a large kitchen knife, needless to say the chefs jacket and trousers were given a Pierre White make-over. All those male’s reading will realise that a sharp kitchen knife anywhere near the trouser department is way too close for comfort!

Personally, I like to see a chef passionate about the food he cooks and the closer he comes to killing someone because of it, the more confident I am that the food is gonna be good. As long as its not me he wants to kill!
Like I said….do not mess with Marco.

Stars, stars everywhere!

Tuesday, September 25th, 2007

An abundance of stars from stage, screen and music have been treading the boards in the West End recently - from Kelly Osbourne in Chicago to reality T.V. winner, Lee Mead in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. It seems every which way you turn, someone famous is making their West End debut or in the case of Denise Van Outen - West End return. Spamalot, Chicago and even Wicked have seen their fair share of stars and now even Cabaret is getting in on the act, with Amy Nuttall and Julian Clary joining the cast in October! Sorry if I don’t get too excited but i’d much prefer to see Brad Pitt or George Clooney take to the stage, maybe I could convince them that Oceans Eleven was made to be a West End musical?! Although saying that, I was rather excited about Duncan James appearing in Chicago and I am more than a little intrigued about Kelly Osbourne’s portrayal of the domineering Mamma Morton - she has a big voice but can she replace the iconic performance of Queen Latifah? Granted Latifah only appeared in the 2002 film version but when you think Mamma do you think Latifah or Kelly…exactly! Good luck to her though, from what i’ve heard and read Kelly Osborne is taking this role seriously and the pictures of her are amazing, she certainly looks the part!
Check out this interview with Kelly talking about her role which she began on the 10th September:

Tuesday, September 18th, 2007

Fans of Denise Van Outen listen up - she is returning to the West End on October 16th 2007! For those of you that have been waiting for this joyous day, calm down and wait for the best bit, she will be treading the boards as Maureen in the new production of Rent at the Duke of York’s theatre… Too much excitement for one blog maybe, but i don’t know when to stop.

Fans of Rent will be delighted to hear that it is returning to the nation’s capital and fans of Denise Van Outen will be doubly excited. So if you are both then this has got to be the best news ever.

Denise Van Outen has performed on stage since childhood going from Les Miserables and A Midsummer Night’s Dream to a starring role as Roxie Hart in 2001’s Chicago production. In between this she has consistently worked on TV and in film earning great praise with her feisty, fun girl attitude as a presenter on Channel 4’s Big Breakfast.

Most recently she has been seen both sides of the Atlantic on the musical reality shows Any Dream Will Do (UK) and Grease: You’re the One that I Want (USA).

Take a look of the video i found on youtube showing Ms Van Outen singing with Andy Williams, you can be sure to see a more gritty performance when Rent opens in October!

Get your Cape and Glasses Ready - Potter May be Enchanting the West End!

Tuesday, September 4th, 2007

That’s right Potter fans, the magic may be closer than you think! We have heard on the magical grapevine that JK Rowling’s spellbinding tales may be coming to the West End - all seven best selling novels in one spectacular musical stage show!

The feelers have been put out to find a young star to fill Harry’s boots as the talented Daniel Radcliffe has passed his Potter sell by date at the grand age of 18!

No doubt if these rumors are true the West End is in for an invasion - just by looking at the success of the book and films you don’t need to be Dumbledore to work out that this is going to be BIG.
The only question is how the hell are they going to fit in the all immense action and incredible story-lines from all seven novels into one stage production? You’d need to be a wizard to work that one out! However we hear that the West End is in for a treat as they promise spectacular flying scenes, live Quidditch and big showdowns with Voldermort.

Muggles, wizards, ghosts and death eaters - keep your eyes on the Show and Stay news section for updates on this exciting rumor!
