Extensions are all the rage in the West End!
August 9th, 2007 by Laura WestThis year in the West End it’s all about extending shows, Lee Mead was the first to kick start this new extension craze by announcing (before the doors had even opened for the first preview!) that he shall be prolonging his West End debut by 5 months.
Soon to follow suit was the guest star of Chicago - Duncan James, due to appear as Billy Flynn for 7 weeks, the ex-boy band member has stepped up to the plate and performed so well that he has extended his stage debut to 10 weeks.
The hilarious Spamalot has also jumped on the band-waggon and has pushed it’s comic antics back to the 1st March 2008, the recently opened Buddy Holly will be rocking and rolling till 28th June 2008 and 1 day old Grease has met the audiences demand and extended their running to the 14th June 2008.
I am not surprised that we are seeing so many extensions in theatreland, because in my opinion the quality of shows being opened in the West End this year is absolutely outstanding. There is definitely more hype around the West End at the moment which is a clear sign of more good things to come! Watch this space.
