Battle of the Josephs

Wednesday, May 30th, 2007

It’s nearly crunch time. ‘Any Dream Will Do’ semi-final this week. Keith, Lee, Lewis and Ben will battle it out for a precious place in the final show. I personally think it’s down to two main contenders now - Keith and Lee. Ben undoubtedly has star quality and cheeky charm to boot, but his shaky performance of ‘Crying’ last Saturday proved that his voice may not be strong enough to play Joseph. And as for Lewis, I’ve not yet seen him shine in the competition and to be honest, I’m surprised he’s still there. Although his performances are always competent, I’ve never watched him and gone ‘wow!’.

In other related news, I was surprised to see that Lee Mead has a Facebook profile - or should I say ‘Lee Mead’ has a Facebook profile. Ok, so I was sad enough to search for him on Facebook (it pains me to admit that, it really does). Anyway it was clearly a fake but there were lots of fans leaving messages of support and general obsession on it. Until today when I checked it (for research purposes only, you understand) a friend of Lee has had a big old rant telling the fakers to close the account. He called them bad names. He sounds rather angry. All of which I thought was very funny. Check it out at Facebook - you’ll have to join to see it though.

Anyway, take a look at Mr Mead performing ‘Daydream Believer’ last Saturday - bleedin’ brill. If you’re betting person, I suggest you put some cash on him to win..

Grease Show Dropouts!

Tuesday, May 29th, 2007

It’s all go in the grease studio, we’ve had mix ups, sing offs and tough decisions - which makes us hopelessly devoted to watching this show!

After the shocking news that the couples were being split up we all sighed and thought this is it for our favorites Anthony and Alison, and boy did it come close to losing Alison for good.
Former couple Danny R and Lauren were always a weak pair from the beginning, and it was made obvious when they brought their new partners down to the bottom two with them. It was Bradley and Lauren vs Danny R and Alison, and after a tense sing off Bradley and Lauren were given to boot to our relief - there was still hope for our favorite pair Anthony and Alison!

This week the boys battled it out for a place in the semi final and when it came to the crunch pringle lip Michael and weak Danny R disco danced their way out of the competition. The judges voted off Danny R after coming to their senses and the public did us proud by voting off the smarmy Michael. So that leaves our winner Anthony and the plastic looking Danny B in the semi final, get your fingers ready to dial Grease is the Word and vote Anthony all the way. Next week its the battle of the pink ladies, it’s going to be a tough one as they are all pretty good but as ever we’ll be rooting for Alison.

Lee to win Joseph

Monday, May 21st, 2007

Things are getting very very exciting on ‘Any Dream Will Do’ these days. We’re down to the final five and now that Daniel’s gone (shocking by the way - Lewis should have been out this week), I can’t see any contenders to really rival Lee. Lewis seems to lack confidence and Craig has no charisma. Ben and Keith are great, but they pale when placed next to Lee. His version of ‘Paint It Black’ by the Rolling Stones was truly powerful, brilliantly acted and superbly sung. I don’t want to count Lee’s chickens before they hatch, but I think we already have our Joseph…

Another Grease Couple Are Left Stranded At The Drive In

Tuesday, May 15th, 2007

Well three couples down, five remain and we breathed a sigh of relief when our favorites Anthony and Alison were kept in. This week they chose a soulful song and blew the audience away, keep up the good work!

Susan Mcfadden really shone this week and proves a strong competitor for the role of Sandy, however that cant be said for her partner Danny B. He overacts, is very false and his upper lip really resembles a pringle crisp. Yet saying this I reckon Susan is going to carry him along because she actually has talent - but for how long can pringle lip dodge the chop? We shall have to tune in Saturday night to see.

It’s the final six

It’s the final six

Monday, May 14th, 2007

This week was the turn of Rob the Builder to leave ‘Any Dream Will Do’. As soon as I saw that he was up against Lewis in the sing-off I knew he’d be going - no competition really.

So, we’re left with the final six. And I think all but one have the potential to win - Craig. He’s had a couple of near misses, being in the bottom two fairly often. If he’s in the sing-off against any of the other remaining Josephs I think ‘The Lord’ will let him go. For me, he’s just not got the charisma of any of the others and I don’t think I’d pay to see him on a West End stage. But as for who will win out of the others, it’s anyone’s guess. They’re all really good, though I have a feeling it will be Daniel, Lee and Keith in the final….

Bye bye Chris B

Tuesday, May 8th, 2007

Ahhh it’s a shame, but after a promising start Chris B is out of the ‘Any Dream Will Do’. Andrew Lloyd Webber described him as a rabbit in the headlights, which I think is a little harsh, but he does have a point. I really like Chris, but being in the bottom two the other week seemed to knock his confidence and he never recovered.

Lee was brilliant as always and proved he can do rock ‘n’ roll as well as a soulful ballad this week. I’ve added a video of him singing ‘All Right Now’ for your delectation.

And a sad farewell from Chris… I’ll miss him!

Check out Andrew Lloyd Webber’s video diary for his views on the show.

The Cheese King Has Gone

Tuesday, May 8th, 2007

Well I was right in my prediction, the judges woke up, smelt the stilton and kicked Richard out this week. Although he calmed down his cheese-tastic performance, his cocky nature prevailed and lost him his place. However the batten of cheese has been handed over to Michael and in my opinion he is keeping the stilton strong with his funny facial expressions and singing technique. Michael and Vicky are strong contenders in this competition and I don’t think they will be kicked out anytime soon, but with their scandalous kiss at the end of this weeks performance their luck could be changing. Vicky and her boyfriend both auditioned for parts in Grease and were dubbed the ‘Grease Lovebirds’, but her boyfriend was let go at boot camp leaving Vicky to go on alone. No doubt her boyfriend was in the audience rooting for her - I wonder what he thought of the kiss?

Yet again my favorites Anthony and Alison gave a great performance oozing energy and fun, they really pushed themselves vocally this week and it paid off. I still think they have a good chance of winning ‘Grease is the Word’ but it’s down to the public - so get voting!

Lee Has Fallen Ill and Seamus Has Fallen Out

Thursday, May 3rd, 2007

Tragedy has stuck the Joseph house, our favorite Joseph (Lee) has fallen ill with a virus and has already had to miss training. He has tried all the old remedies such as inhaling steam, gargling with salt water and fizzy vitamins in order to get better for saturdays performance. His sheer determination to stay on is proof enough that he is worthy to go all the way, we are now voting for you more than ever!
Oh dear oh dear, Seamus you have really shown your true colours! His final performance of “Close Every Door To Me” was really something. I don’t know what he has trying to prove by signing so angrily, ripping the coat away from the other Josephs and singing the last lyric “I have been promised a SHOW of my own” instead of LAND.
Take a look for yourself to see how ridiculous he looks, below I have also added another eviction so you can see what it was supposed to be like.

Go Cheese Lightening

Thursday, May 3rd, 2007

Well Well Well it seems that the ‘cheese factor’ has stuck with a few contestants since the auditions - Richard should have be awarded a Stilton crown for his performance this week as it was that bad. Over the top is too milder expression to use for when watching him prance around the stage and to make it worse he caught Anthony Kavangha’s horrendous hip grinding motion (oh yes we all remember his audition!). Just take a look for yourself if you can bare to watch it.

I have to say though that I am backing Anthony and Alison to win as they have so much energy, have the most fun and definitely look the part. However Anthony still hasn’t quite got to grips with his dancing but at least he is damn sight better than his atrocious audition. Alison on the other hand is the whole package, she is the spitting image of Olivia Newton-John and has both signing and dancing talents. We shall just have to wait and see if my predictions are right in the upcoming weeks, finger crossed for them!
