Honor Blackman, the 79 year old actress best known for her role in the 1964 Bond film Goldfinger is to take a role in the West End musical Cabaret.

The London musical has proved a little more risque than the West End is used to, particularly as it is billed as mainstream - it’s expected from Fringe theatre! I think an audience would be disappointed if a Fringe production didn’t test the boundaries a little, possibly ending in some sort of riot “no nudity, not even a bit of swearing or political satire, how very dare you?!”

The musical bares all, well rather the cast does but not in a hen party, strip club, money in g strings kinda way and despite her years I get the impression that Honor Blackman will not shy away from nudity, after all, it is part of her “art”. The musical is well worth a visit with all the decadence and glamour you would expect from the production that made a household name of Liza Minnelli and the nudity is an added bonus if you like that kinda thing!

Honor Blackman is a genuinely impressive actress and will be a suitable addition to an already astounding cast. I think if you are new to the musical world Cabaret would be an interesting production as part of your initiation, for hard core theatre fans Cabaret is a must see and should definitely be on your wish list.
